报告题目：State of Congestion Control on the Internet

He has spent over 25 years studying in the fields of congestion control and error control on the Internet. His current research interests include performance evaluation of communication networks, multiple-traffic control on multiple-channel systems and QoS (Quality of Service) on the Internet. He has published more than 40 papers in the top-notch transactions and in proceedings of first class international conferences. In regard to his professional experience, he was the chair of department of management and information systems and the director of the information processing center of PUH from April 2013 to March 2015, and from April 2015 to March 2017, respectively. Now he is the head of department of management and information systems.
Congestion control on the Internet has also been an open issue so far. In the early Internet, the congestion control mechanisms, such as TCP Tahoe, TCP Reno, worked pretty well since the networks bandwidth was not high at that time. With the rapid development of transmission technology, however, it has been approved that TCP slow-start mechanism could not make good use of the transmission bandwidth. To address this issue, a lot of modified TCP congestion control schemes have been developed, for example, HighSpeed TCP, Scalable TCP and Fast TCP, etc. Especially ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification) has been mostly expected. In this talk, we first introduce the mechanism of congestion control on the Internet, and then the principle of ECN and its operations. Finally, we will show some state-of-the-art results concerned with ECN, such as the connectivity of ECN-Capable connections, changes of the round-trip time and Time-to-Live, through empirical measurements. We have observed some interest results related with domain cn which are different from those of other domains.
